Market size and growth


Battery energy storage systems (BESS) enable the efficient use of renewable energies by balancing out fluctuations in energy generation and ensuring a reliable power supply. Market development in Germany
As of April 1, 2023, 7.1 gigawatt hours (GWh) of battery capacity from around 675,000 stationary systems (not including battery capacity in electric cars) were already recorded in the Federal Network Agency’s market master data register in Germany.
In order to ensure grid stability and the integration of renewable energies by 2030, around 100 GWh of stationary battery storage will be required, and this will increase to around 180 GWh by 2045.
